Features: The GracePort® Modbus Plus tap interface provides network access as a network trunk tap and programming node.  The printed circuit assembly features a shielded RJ-45 connection for program downloading and monitoring, landed to (4) pluggable 3-position terminal blocks for easy wiring to network trunk/drop cables.  Internal circuitry allows connection of a programming device with a minimum of network disruption.
Installation:  Installation of the GracePort®  Modbus Plus Tap interface should be performed by a qualified installer knowledgable in Modbus Plus network technology.  Additional installation information is available in the technical publication "Modicon Modbus Plus Network Planning and Installation Guide" (publication #890 USE 100 00, AEG Schneider Automation, Inc., One High Street, North Andover, MA, 01845

Depending on where it is electrically located in relation to other taps on the network, the GracePort®  Modbus Plus network tap may be configured in either an end site configuration or an inline site configuration (figure 1).  If the location is an end site tap, the use of a trunk terminator (resistor) is required, while an inline site tap does not require a terminator.  Typical configurations are shown in figure 2.  Care should be taken to wire the tap according to where it lies within the network and to insure correct grounding at site taps as well as device panels.
This interface allows the addition or removal of a programming device from the network with a minimum of disruption.  However, it should be noted that connection or disconnection from an active network may cause a disruption of up to 15 seconds while the network reconfigures itself.  This interface device requires a unique programming address for proper operation.
